John Atkins

John Atkins focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, commercial and corporate transactions, real estate transactions, intellectual property (including trademark registration applications and transfers), corporate formation and governance matters. He also has vast experience with economic development matters, representing several Texas economic development corporations. He regularly represents entities raising private equity funds in exempt private placement transactions, both under Texas and other state laws and also under Section 4(a)(2) of the Securities Act of 1933 (and the safe harbors thereunder, including Rule 506 of Regulation D).

John’s experience includes the following:  representing a hotel developer and acquirer on several private placement offerings, representing a start-up beef processing venture with complex corporate governance and securities raises in excess of $200 million, representing the sellers of a company that designs and manufactures downhole tools for the oil and gas service sector, representing the sellers of a 445-bed, full service hospital, representing the seller of a diesel fuel transport pipeline and representing the buyer of the largest ranch under one fence in the United States, consisting of over 510,000 contiguous acres.

Recognized as one of the state’s top young lawyers, John was named a 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2019 Texas Rising Star by Law & Politics and Texas Monthly magazines. Selection as a Texas Rising Star is limited to no more than 2.5% of the eligible lawyers in the state.

He enjoys golfing, running, traveling, and spending free time with his wife and their two sons.
