James Wester focuses on bringing value to his clients as he leads Underwood’s Renewable Energy Group. James represents clients in the growing wind, solar and renewable energy industries in the Texas Panhandle region. In addition to legal knowledge, James employs his industry knowledge to assist landowners, developers, transmission service providers, and other stakeholders in various aspects of development and contractual negotiations. Because economic development incentives are an important factor for renewable energy projects, a portion of his practice includes tax abatement agreements and tax limitation agreements with school districts, hospital districts, regional medical centers, and counties. As renewable energy is a global business, he has developed relationships with international colleagues.
One component of James’ practice is real estate law, which includes legal issues relating to acquiring, financing, developing, managing, constructing, leasing and selling agriculture, commercial and residential real estate; mortgages and re-financing; 1031 tax-deferred exchanges; and issues related to easements, property taxes, and title, title curative and title insurance matters. James works with clients to structure transactions, which often includes entity formation, organizing and structuring companies, and purchases and sales of assets.
James also has extensive experience in negotiating and drafting software licensing agreements, software development agreements, and other technology related agreements.
