U.S. Citizenship Immigrations Services (USCIS) announced the launch of a new online resource webpage, I-9 Central, which is dedicated to the Form I-9, Employee Eligibility Verification. This free and easy to use website provides employers and employees access to resources, tips, and guidance regarding how to properly complete Form I-9 and better understand the Form I-9 process.
This new online resource center follows the introduction of another important USCIS employment related resource, the updated Handbook for Employers: Instruction for Completing Form I-9 (M– 274), which was published in January of 2011.
I-9 Central includes sections about employee and employer rights responsibilities, step by step instructions for completing the form, and information about acceptable documents for establishing identity and employment authorization. This online research center also provides a discussion of common mistakes to avoid, how to correct any errors, and answers two frequently asked questions about the Form I-9 process.
According to U.S. immigration law, employers must verify the identity and employment authorization for every worker they hire, regardless of the employee’s immigration status. U.S. immigration law requires every employer to complete Form I-9 for every worker.
Please contact any member of Underwood Law Firm’s Immigration Section with your I-9 related questions.
