The Underwood Law Firm is pleased to announce that John Atkins, Amber James, and Stephanie James have been named 2018 “Texas Rising Stars.” To be honored as a Rising Star, attorneys must be age 40 or younger, or have practiced fewer than 10 years. Rising Star selections are based on nominations from fellow attorneys who previously were honored in the prestigious Texas Super Lawyers list. The selections are made by Texas Monthly magazine in cooperation with the publication Law and Politics. Only 2.5 percent of the total lawyers in Texas are listed as “Rising Stars.”
John Atkins – John Atkins focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, commercial and corporate transactions, real estate transactions, intellectual property, and corporate formation and governance matters. He also has vast experience with economic development matters, representing several Texas economic development corporations. He is the head of Underwood’s Business Law Section.
Amber James – Amber James is an experienced business lawyer who often litigates complex multi-million dollar commercial disputes and negotiates multi-million dollar transactions on behalf of her clients. Amber represents clients in all industries, but has significant experience in oil and gas, representing oilfield service companies, mineral owners, surface owners, and banks in complex commercial litigation and transactions in the Permian Basin and beyond.
Stephanie James – Stephanie James’ practice consists of a wide variety of civil litigation, healthcare and bankruptcy matters. She represents clients in personal injury litigation, healthcare litigation, commercial litigation (including contract disputes and deceptive trade practices claims), construction disputes, employment disputes, and general civil litigation. Stephanie has also represented creditors and debtors in bankruptcy litigation.
