Notice: COVID-19 News
From: Glenn Hegar, Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
March 24, 2020

Mr. Hegar has announced the possibility of extending waivers of penalties and interest for many businesses struggling to pay February’s sales taxes. The February sales taxes were due by March 20, 2020. According to the Texas Comptroller website, the agency is offering assistance to those individuals that missed the March deadline. For businesses that find themselves in this situation, the Texas Comptroller is advising the public to contact their Enforcement Hotline at 800-252-8880 to discuss short-term payment agreements or waivers of penalties and interest.

The Comptroller’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights includes the right to request a waiver of penalties.
#7 – You have the RIGHT to Request a Waiver of Penalties – “We understand that extraordinary circumstances may cause an unavoidable late filing or payment of taxes, or the need to amend reports due to an error. We will give consideration to waiving penalties if you have not previously paid or filed late, or in a first-time audit situation.”
