James Wester, along with Pedro Cunha, attended the American Wind Energy Association’s WindPower 2012 in Atlanta. While not as large as some of the prior shows, there were over 1,000 exhibitors. With the Wind Production Tax Credit (“PTC”) set to expire at the end of this year, a number of companies and projects are sitting on the sidelines. The PTC was a constant topic of discussion at AWEA. On the bright side, numerous people and companies are taking this opportunity to inventory their projects, further fill their pipeline of projects, and prepare for the next opportunity.
Despite the PTC issue, there continues to be significant interest in the Texas Panhandle as the CREZ transmission lines continue their construction efforts. With transmission lines anticipated to be available at the end of 2013, the Texas Panhandle Region and other CREZ areas are being eyed for potential development due to the great wind resources and high-capacity factors.
