Renewable Energy
Recent advancements in technology, coupled with a strong push by the State of Texas for clean and renewable energy, have lead to a boom in new wind energy development in the Texas Panhandle and surrounding region. The Underwood Law Firm has been an industry leader in wind resources in the Texas Panhandle since 2005, including involvement in the developing, financing, and purchase and sale of wind energy projects. The best wind resources in the United States are known as the “wind corridor,” which begins in the Texas Panhandle and runs north to the Canadian border. The Public Utility Commission of Texas’ Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) Project is slated to build transmission lines that will carry 5,500 megawatts of yet to be developed electricity from the Texas Panhandle to the more densely populated areas in Texas (e.g., Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio). In addition, the Southwest Power Pool continues its efforts to expand transmission facilities to further develop the excellent wind resources.
The Underwood Law Firm has the industry knowledge and legal expertise to help landowners, school districts, counties, and developers navigate the booming wind opportunities. Underwood has been actively involved in wind development in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Colorado. Underwood is a proud founding member of Class 4 Winds and Renewables and James Wester served as the founding president.
