Financial Assistance to Livestock Producers

The Texas Department of Agriculture has received a block grant of $16.1 million to assist livestock producers who have suffered forage production losses from drought.

Eligible producers must have owned livestock for commercial use for at least 30 days and must have suffered forage production losses between March 7, 2006 and August 31, 2006. Eligible livestock includes adult beef cattle two years of age and older and sheep at least one of age and older.

Payments will be made on a per-head basis. Payment rates will be determined by the total number of eligible livestock claimed by all Texas applicants. Payments are limited to $10,000 per eligible producer.
