White House Position on Family Immigration Friday, June 22, 2007 At the heart of the current debates over immigration reform are questions related to the priority which will be given to family vs. employment based immigration. The current proposal, tagged as the Great Bargain, clearly moves toward employment based strategies and away from historical family based preferences. The goal, according to President Bush is to end "Chain Migration." To understand that phrase and the position of the President on the issue, the White House issued the June 1, 2007 "Fact Sheet: Ending Chain Migration." A copy of that fact sheet can be found at http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/06/20070601-22.html. This column is published for informational purposes only.
