Summer Associate Program

The Underwood Law Firm is committed to excellence in client service and understands how critical the hiring process is to ensure the continuation of that tradition. Our summer associate program is one of our most important recruiting tools. In recent years, we have selected most of our new associates from our summer program. In addition to our experience with law students during the summer, we evaluate a candidate's undergraduate and law school records, academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, communication skills and experience. The summer program provides both an opportunity for the firm to see if the law students will fit into the firm culture and gives our summer associates as much insight into our firm as possible.

Our summer program is a great opportunity for law students to experience our firm's culture, work environment, areas of practice and life in Amarillo. Summer associates participate in a program designed to provide an opportunity to work with the firm's lawyers and provide maximum exposure to all areas of practice. They are given responsibilities and expected to help complete actual client work. Our goal is to create an environment in which summer associates can apply many of the skills and concepts they've learned in law school and also get a feel for life as a lawyer.

The length of our summer program is six weeks and typically runs during the first half of the summer. Salary for the clerkship is decided year to year and is competitive with other Amarillo law firms. Each summer associate can expect to have direct contact with a supervising shareholder and a supervising associate who will assist the summer associate in becoming familiar with the firm and Amarillo. A variety of social activities are planned to give each summer associate the opportunity to spend time with members of the firm in a more informal, relaxed setting.
